The only time a woman is helpless, is when her polish is drying.

Welcome.

All About... Me.

Firstly my name is Sophie-Marie Glover, but i only get called Sophie-Marie when I'm in trouble haha. So Sophie will be just fine.

I'm 23 years old, almost 24. My birthday is the day before valentine's day.

I'm a massive animal lover. From rats and lizards to dogs and cats. I currently have 2 dogs a Yorkshire terrier called Rosie and a Chihuahua cross Chinese crested called Frankie. Frankie definitely has little man syndrome, I'm sure he thinks he's a doberman. As well as 2 cats Molly and Maggie.

Anyway, now onto the interesting stuff. I've been a hairdresser since i was 14 years old. I done the majority of my training with an incredible hairdresser, who was a Schwarzkopf representative. She also taught at high end salons in London, which i got to be apart of! I qualified in 7 months and pushed myself further to gain a diploma. As well as broadening my knowledge by taking part in various hairdressing and business courses. I have been apart of multiple competitions, some won some lost but all experience gained pushed me further to better myself. Whilst doing the competitions i started to study make-up and how the application of it makes a huge difference to how it appears. By watching tutorials on you tube and investing in some professional make-up, i started to teach myself the basics. I would like to state that i have no qualifications in make-up and i do not class myself as an artist. I simply just enjoy doing make-up on myself and friends.

Until i started hairdressing i always had very long nails. I used to paint them all the time and then come the dermatitis and weak nails. So... I got acrylics. I had my first set when i was about 15 and had them done every month until i was 22 years old! Making the decision to have my acrylics removed was seriously a hard decision but one of the best I've made in my life. Of course when they were removed my nails were incredibly weak that i seriously started to panic about them ever being healthy again. I'd never experienced/seen such disgustingly weak and poor nails. I couldn't polish them because any polish i used just flaked off within hours because of my job. I had nasty short nubs for months that never grew and never looked any better. I tried millions of products and remedies but nothing seemed to work. I went to the nail salon one day and asked them if there was anything i could do that would protect my nails and help them get healthy. That's when i found Shellac.Wow i loved it! It hadn't been out long so there wasn't a massive amount of information about it. I was having Shellac applied every 2 weeks for about 6 months. Costing me £25 a time! One day i was at the wholesalers and i noticed a stand about NUBAR Gelicure. I asked about it and done some research discovering that it was very similar to Shellac. BRIGHT IDEA... Why don't i get the stuff and do it myself?

So i got the kit i practised on myself and my mum. Who bless her has always been a guinea pig for me! I attended a NUBAR Gelicure course giving me a lot more confidence. As soon as my nails started getting healthier i began using Gelicure less and less and now i very rarely use it, only when I'm going away. Polish started lasting, my nails were getting healthier day by day and finally they started to gain length. It's taken patience, time, effort and a hell of a lot of products but finally i love my nails. I'm lactose intolerant which causes me to be calcium and vitamin D deficient. Of course this doesn't help at all. However even though my nails aren't 'as strong as nails' they definitely are very strong considering what they have been through and circumstances. I swear by NUBAR cuticle oil which is one product i will always love but my top most favourite product ever in the world is Perfect Formula gel base coats. They remove like a normal polish but keep your nails extra strong. It is protein enriched and you can wear alone or under polish. It is literally perfect (for me anyway).

I have self-taught everything i know today about nail art. Of course with the help of many bloggers, you tubers and instagramers. I've never attended any manicure courses. Nail art to me isn't just a hobby. It makes me happy, helps me to relax and allows me to express my ideas and creativity in a way that suits me. I always try to find inspiration in everything whether it be from material things or life experiences. We all find our own inspiration and have our own ideas and thoughts.

I hope you have enjoyed this post. From here on it's going to be all my creativity in the form of nail art! Possibly with some other stuff thrown in.
